Initially I didn't feel like this was an area I could really improve on and kind of left it, however it wasn't until recently that i took a look at my work and noticed that how I present my work visually has changed and in most cases, for the better!
In my first projects I stuck to familiar styles such as hand based sketches, cutting and sticking mood boards and a hand based design portfolio which I still think are valid but can limit visual communication.
Because of the electronics portfolio and influence of the Learning in the twenty-first century module digital tools has changed the way i approach visual communication, made me aware of the different ways i can produce visual work. From experimenting using digital tools through out the year i have become more aware about how I use visual communication more efficiently! .... although in some cases there is just no beating pen and paper!

Benefits of using digital communication techniques
- Easier to present visual work to a large group. I have found that since using digital tools to make my portfolio i am able to present my ideas and work better during crits. Having it on a website i can show it on a large screen and can be seen clearly. i can also send the link of my visual work to teachers and other class members for feedback.
- More accessible! my visual work can be accessed anywhere by anybody in the world as opposed to it being in a sketch book under my table in the living room.
- Saved on cost, time and effort of printing images/info out and sticking into portfolio (which can also look messy) and spending hours colouring in and drawing.
- Time saving in the fact i can screen shot/copy imagery straight from the source and quickly post anywhere i like
- On-line sketches tools and graphics tablet are a little tricky to use and can take longer than just scribbling on a piece of paper.
- if your computer crashes or any other technology failure your work is lost!
- Hand based skills can be lost
